Breeze Production API released

Breeze's brand new API (Application Programming Interface) allows third party applications to fetch real time and historical data for any turbine monitored in Breeze - including power output, wind speed, turbine status, maintenance and more.

Breeze's brand new API (Application Programming Interface) allows third party applications to fetch real time and historical data for any turbine monitored in Breeze - including power output, wind speed, turbine status, maintenance and more. Here are some scenarios where it might be useful.

Forecasting

The Breeze API enhances forecasting accuracy. Most forecasting models require two types of input regularly from the operator of the wind farm.

  1. Real time data to calibrate the forecasting models
  2. Scheduled maintenance to exclude non-operational wind turbines from the forecast

Many forecasting tools use a model based on both physical factors (weather predictions) and statistical analysis to forecast electricity production. The model is often calibrated with real production data from the wind farm in order to make the forecasting model better over time. With the new Breeze API operators of wind farms can easily feed real time production data or batches of production data back into the forecasting model in order to automate the calibration or to calibrate the model at finer intervals.

To create accurate forecasts also requires that the forecasting model knows about scheduled maintenance or any other factors causing specific wind turbines to be non-operational at specific time intervals as they will not contribute to production during these times. This is a process in which many people and even multiple companies are often involved. With the new Breeze API the operator schedules maintenance in Breeze. Events are directly made available to any of the API client applications.

Although not part of the API functionality it is very useful for the operator to be able to compare the scheduled time for a turbine to be non-operational and the actual time as indicated by the error code coming from the turbine. With scheduled non-operational times and actual non-operational times the operator gains very valuable insight through Breeze on how well the scheduled maintenance times are held.

Advanced Data Analytics

Data analysts like their tools. With the new Breeze API data analysts can pull real time and historic data from Breeze directly into their own tools such as Matlab, Excel, R etc.

Marketing

Some owners like to present metrics on how their wind farm portfolio is producing in real time and make it available to the public. Some may even like to create a nice interactive wind power website with real time and historic data from their wind farm. With the Breeze API your imagination is the boundary.
