A Bright future for Breeze

Solar panels

At Breeze we are seeing customers in wind extending their portfolio to encompass solar photovoltaics. Many of those customers have expressed a desire to also bring in their solar assets into Breeze. To monitor solar and wind in the same platform makes a lot of sense as they at a fundamental level are the same - both are powered by a fuel that is free and volatile.

What has no moving parts and generates electricity?

The answer, of course, solar photovoltaics.

The riddle could also have been:

What form of electricity production has 40% year on year growth for the past ten years and has the likes of Warren Buffet pouring in investment capital?

The answer would again be solar photovoltaics.

At our core, Breeze believes renewable energy is the future of electricity generation. Lower and lower levelized cost of electricity from renewables beating most forms of conventional electricity production seems to be proving us right. Every now and then it is nice to be right.

Much of what Breeze does for wind farm management are objectives also sought by owners of solar photovoltaic assets:

  • Increase uptime and power output
  • Save time with a portfolio-wide software system
  • Take actions based on observed trends, identify under performing assets
  • Track whether corrective actions have improved output, quantify the results and take action
  • Create better and more accurate performance-based contracts for hired service providers
  • Deliver additional value with operational data from commissions for asset transactions

Today we are happy to announce that Breeze will be extended to support monitoring, reporting and analysis of solar photovoltaic assets.

The extension of Breeze for solar will be performed in close cooperation with our customers. During the development phase we are working with operational solar photovoltaic sites of various sizes. The participating pilot customers will help us develop the correct visualizations, KPIs, functionality and user interface. We welcome additional owners of solar photovoltaics to join the Breeze for solar pilot testing group - a unique opportunity to be part of shaping the service.

The solar photovoltaics market is characterized by high fragmentation and a changing environment of panel manufacturers, installers, inverters, data logger manufacturers and peripherals and a close to infinite amount of different configurations. We realize the problem of harmonizing all this data into an easy to use data structure for monitoring, analysis and reporting purposes is a difficult task. That is exactly why we are pursuing it.

We believe our offering to be unique. Breeze will continue to be provided as a Software as a Service (SaaS). This aligns our incentives with those of our customers who seek to increase production and decrease operating expenditures. The SaaS model also lets new customers come on to the platform with a smaller financial outlay than on premise solutions. This is important as electricity production is trending towards becoming a low margin business in many markets.

The SaaS model ensures a long term commitment and is manifested by our focus on Customer Success in terms of training, support and innovation in product development. We are incentivized to lead, and intend to continue leading, the development of renewable energy data platforms.

At Breeze we are very excited to get to work. Launch date is January 1 2016.
