For many of us, this is the time of year for a little reflection and hopefully a little relaxation! The year 2016 for Greenbyte was exactly what we hoped for: dynamic, fast-paced, challenging, inspiring.
For many of us, this is the time of year for a little reflection and hopefully a little relaxation!
The year 2016 was another year of growth for the renewable energy industry. One year ago, the COP 21 Paris agreement was reached and over the year countries large and small have signed on. In 2016, China built on average two new turbines every hour. The U.S. has 18GW of wind under construction and a similar level of solar PV. The levelized cost of energy for onshore wind, offshore wind and solar continued their steady year over year decline. The dependence on subsidies is waning.
With these trends, the renewable energy industry is coming to grips with some growth pains. Unscheduled hours of downtime on a 3MW wind turbine are more significant than on a 1MW turbine. Higher renewable energy penetration means more curtailment orders and lower spot prices at times. Larger asset fleets require more active monitoring and predictive analysis. More colleagues joining the industry need training, knowledge and modern tools.
The year 2016 for Greenbyte was exactly what we hoped for: dynamic, fast-paced, challenging, inspiring. We launched Bright for solar PV management. We moved to a newer bigger office. We welcomed almost 100% more colleagues. We met many of our customers and partners in Gothenburg, Hamburg, New Orleans, and San Francisco. We installed our 3000th wind turbine in Breeze and we continue to work hard towards becoming the independent platform for the renewable energy industry.
In 2017 we will widen our offerings by providing services for all types of renewable energy at scale, deepen the number of use cases supported and sharpen our services and the value they can provide.
We couldn’t be more excited about the new year. Thanks for your support and wishing you the happiest of holiday seasons!
